Design around scenes, not switches

The biggest mistake is treating RA2 Select as a like-for-like switch swap. The value is in scenes. Decide how each room is used across the day, a bright Morning, a soft Evening, a Watch scene for the snug, an Away setting that powers everything down, and set the system up around those moments. A Pico keypad should fire a scene, not just toggle one circuit.

Plan your keypad placement first

A single Pico keypad replaces a cluttered bank of switches with a few clearly labelled buttons. Put them where people naturally pause: the main entrance, the top and bottom of the stairs, bedsides and the principal seating in the living room. Treat lighting and shading as one system

If a large house is likely to outgrow those limits, specify a higher tier such as RadioRA 3 or Lutron HomeWorks from the start, rather than hitting the ceiling mid-project.

Get the wireless coverage right

The system runs on Lutron Clear Connect RF, with a range of around nine metres from any device to a repeater through typical walls and floors. Larger or multi-storey homes can add up to four wireless repeaters to extend coverage. In older Irish homes with thick masonry walls, plan repeater placement early so you do not find a dead spot after the install.
